I, Daniel Blake, is a story of an elderly man, who lost his ability to work due to a heart attack. His unsuccessful attempts to get a job led him to public institutions with the hope to issue unemployment benefit. Being practically on the verge of financial collapse, Daniel faces a heartless system of government, which do not care about the life of one person. He was unable to start a family throughout his life. He is able to work only with hands and nothing more. The world of information technology is so gone forward that simple mechanisms paperwork were incomprehensible to him. During a visit to the administrative offices, Daniel has become an unwitting witness of more unfortunate situation than his one. Woman with two children tried to get social assistance from the state. She did not have a husband, a job or even a roof over their heads. She looked even more desperate and exhausted in the never-ending struggle with a soulless machine bureaucracy. Thus, these two people with tragic destinies met, finding only support each other.
Drama I, Daniel Blake aims to pay attention of society to the problems of ordinary people, who also pay taxes, perform all obligations to the state, but until such time as the State has a benefit from him. When a person is deprived of the opportunity to be a full-fledged working unit, he is beyond the scope of public activities. It would seem that the whole state system is based on consumption of human resource without giving anything in return.
